In both movies the protagonists undertake a journey to a faraway land similar to the underworld, in order to bring back a dead person whom they love very much.

in both movies, the main characters come into a new world and try to save their parents. this new world has supernatural and fantasy world in which they both try to adapt to their new environments. worth while to check the other out ^__^

Both are movies that follow two “friends” who travel to different worlds, fantasy RPG-styled. Both sets of main characters have different ideas of how to solve the main conflict and end up traveling down separate paths, good vs evil, as a main plot point. Additionally both movies are also based off of video games.

Starts off in the real world and goes into a fantasy one. Similar world but way more light hearted.

Haru and Wataru both encounter problems associated with living a normal human life, and they eventually both find escape and a chance to mature and change their lives in fantasy worlds which are hidden seamlessly in their realities. Brave story focuses on more distressing and mature issues, yet both have their lighthearted moments. The artwork is also very similar, largely centered on bright colours and fluid background which pop out at you. They also both feature cute, anthropomorphized cats, which is always wonderful!

There's a boy, who is chosen to travell across another world to finally find someone, who will make possible to change the destiny. Fantasy, I really recommend!

Our main characters are transported to a fantasy world. They are chosen to rid the world of some evil force. They must adapt to this new world in order to survive and go back home. Both have action, adventure, swords and magic too. Brave Story is based on the PSP game Brave Story New Traveler. While Grimgar is based on a Light novel series.

At its vaguest, both movies can be summarized as "Elementary school students go on a journey to a place not like our usual planet at all and start off having fun meeting the friendly, but not human-like, people around them. This new world starts off fun but gets serious as there is a clear crisis that the kid/kids solve." Although there is only one main character in Brave Story and several in Welcome to the Space Show, they are all very young and do end up far away from home with odd monsters/aliens you would expect to see in a movie aimed at  read more

Guy goes to a different world, makes friends, travels, and kicks ass. Only difference is STxW is more adult-y...

Both are stories where a young lead gets transported into a visually-stunning magical fantasy world and has to overcome various challenges before returning to the real world a better person.

Brave Story and Denno Coil both deal with a "normal" child thrust into a world that is half real, half make-believe -- but which nevertheless is dangerous. Themes of alienation, fear, a personal sense of failure, responsibility and the essential fragility of a seemingly strong individual are all present in both anime.

Though Hunter x Hunter is a series of total 92 episodes (regarding the main TV and its OVAs as a single whole), and Brave Story is a less than 2 hour movie, they still have very close athmosphere and leave similar impression after watching. The main character of Brave Story Wataru and the HxH antagonist Gon are both friendly, straight and a bit ingenuous boys. But both of them strive for finding and regaining something important, that is their family. The similarity becomes more evident, if Brave Story is placed next to the HxH Greed Island arc. The characters send themselves into a different world, which turns  read more
