Both animes have a four man team that fights against demons, and both four man teams are strong, funny and entertaining to watch.

The stories are somewhat based on the same legend, especially both Goku's (two monkeys). At first I thought that Saiyuki's Goku was a ripoff of Dragon Ball. Saiyuki is meant for older audience than Dragon Ball, but it still has a bit of humor and the feeling that the good guys will always save the day.

Both contain characters sent on a mission, great battles, and have characters with powers.

Both shows heavily capture the sense of adventure, and both feel rather similar. Magi is a bit bloodier than Saiyuki though.

If you enjoyed the character based adventure of Cowboy Bebop, Saiyuki may be the show for you. It's about fifty episodes, but it's well worth it.

Steins Gate deals with time travel, while Saiyuki deals with demons trying to find out why demons are attacking. Both contain a great story and are worth a watch though.

They both have great battles. Saiyuki has character that fight demons, while Hellsing Ultimate has them fight with vampires. Both are fighting great evils.

The first thing I thought watching Gangsta is that there are so many parallels to Saiyuki! First off, the bromance and strong feelings that Worrick and Nico have are similar to how the main protagonists relate to each other. The piano music and sad themes that weave into Gangsta is VERY similar to Saiyuki's approach as well. Honestly, even though both stories are different, its interesting to see a badass Goku vibe coming from Nico when he gets into one of his fighting moods too! I would 100% recommend Saiyuki as an candidate for post-Gangsta anime. Yes, the theme of the show and characters are  read more

Similar fighting evil, supernatural, and rage against the machine themes with BL subtext (or more in the case of Ling Qi) and friendship mixed in.

Both series have similar, -Art style/character design -Humor/vibe -Soundtrack/OST

The relation between Ran and Meow is similar between the relationship between Sanzo and Goku. They fight together and while one is serious the other one is childish.

Both series are about a group of people with special powers going across the land to stop a great evil. The layout of both series are very similar as each story is resolved at the end of either 1 or 2 episodes, and feels quite repetitive, the character interactions in both series make them both interesting series which will hook you very quickly.

Both series show more realistic characters and character relationships than most anime I've watched. Main characters aren't stereotypical shounen heroes and will actually kill things. Both centre around a group of four friends who each have good character depth making you feel attached to each of them individually. Everyone knows how good hunter x hunter is but saiyuki still remains relatively unknown to most people so I suggest you give it a try

Though following different settings (Captain Harlock being set in a futuristic setting in space and Saiyuuki being set in a semi-fantasy setting) the feeling of adventure in both is undeniable. You grow an attachment to the protagonists almost immediately and can't help but support them even if their situations seem ridiculous. The antagonists are, in their own way, sympathetic. Both series' also have a habit of recreating themselves in sequels and so it feels like watching a different series with the same characters which can allow you to fall for the characters again in a whole new setting.

Both contain a battle to save the world. The demons in Saiyuki are fighting to save everyone, while the people in X have to fight to save the world.

Both are about long journeys. And the most frequent phrase of main heroes in these animes is "Hara heta" - I'm hungry.

Each show has a band of four that go on a never-ending quest. they are a team but they bicker and crack jokes on each other.

Both features a group of four people traveling together search for something. Both groups have a cutesy mascot who helps them in their travels. Both groups also being watched by a good entity and the bad guys.

These shows offers characters with unique combination of persona and how they deal with stuffs. An example of formula to create characters in these shows is COOL THING A + COOL THING B, you know, so it will be twice as cool, probably the same principle as that robot unicorn. Zombies high school, ninja vampires, loli necromancer, superpower half-monkey, gunslinger priest, genius pig-incarnate, whatever two cool stuffs combined. Genre-wise both are plain different, don't even try to relate it. Saiyuki beat the crap out of villain with serious attitude and gay appeal that attract lots of maiden audience. Zombie show fighting didn't all that serious, , at  read more

They both involve the same characters going on miscellaneous adventures, with some attempts at humour.

Both created by Kazuya Minekura Araiso and Saiyuki are both clever, full of male-male innuendo's and complete with intricate lovable characters. They are fun and touching and action packed.

Both are based from a old Chinese novel, Journey to the West. Both have groups of people traveling together to search for something. Both have 4 main characters closely based on the 4 main characters from the novel.

Saiyuki and Hakuouki have similar feeling and characters. Both contain fighting, humor and bishounen characters. Hakuouki is based on Japan history, while Saiyuki on Chinese legends.

When first heard a brief description of Saiyuki. I asked if it was a spin-off of Inuyasha. I was assured that they were related in no way, whatsoever. I pulled together all the description of characters and mixed it up and found some nearly identical matches to the characters of Inuyasha and Saiyuki.

A journey to the west in order to restore good within the world. Both character's are similary based upon the book Journey to the West (Saiyuki more so then Mushrambo.), fighting monsters along the way to reach their goal.

Same feeling, traveling group fighting against the enemy and enjoying the villages.

Based in old fashioned times the team in Saiyuki is traveling to find a cure and the cause of the Youkai insanity while the group in Beat the Vandel Buster is aiming to end the dark era. Both of these anime involve plenty of fighting, friendship and monster like creatures (Youkai in Saiyuki and Vandel in BTVB) I think there is a little more character focus in Saiyuki and it seems a bit more complex, but over all these two shows carried the same kind of vibe.
