I am the Bishounen Hunter.... I like animes with good looking people, namely, w/ good looking guys. There are TONS of animes that caters to guys who like girls, offering tons of scantily clad, big-breasted girls doing oh so cute and naughty no-nos and other types of fan service of the same ilk. But there are fewer animes that offer up good looking guys.....really good-looking guys. Be it shonen, shoujo, yaoi whatever! I seek them out and watch them.....even if the original intent was not to showcase bishies. That's why I'm the Bishounen Hunter.
I've been watching anime for a loooooooong time and back then you took whatever was offered.....whether that was some watered down TV show they directed towards kids or some random VHS they offered at the local comic store. I used to welcome anything anime because it fascinated me more than comic books and American-style cartoons. Even most TV shows. However since the massive boom of the anime explosion from the 90's, we have been exposed to other sub-genres within the anime culture and I have since developed my own tastes and sense of aesthetics when it comes to watching anime:
- keep it neat.
- keep it attractive.
- keep it real.
- bring on the drama.
- downplay the fan-service.
I do have my own tendencies and favorite types of anime [Bishonen, Shoujo, Drama, Romance, Shounen-ai, and Yaoi [non-explicit]. But even though I tend to watch these animes that have a decidedly feminine appeal with a lot of emotions and drama, does not mean that I do not or have not watched SHOUNEN animes, I have watched Naruto, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop and the DragonBall series. So I guess you could say I still do love all types of animes and will watch most anything....provided it's a COMPLETED project and was done properly.....and there's not a lot of senseless or unnecessary fan-service.
On scoring & reviewing animes, I'll say this much, I'm a positive person....I try to be fair and nice and to be encouraging to most any work of animation/anime since I am passionate about this field of study and artistic expression. I'm probably the Paula Abdul--American Idol reference--of the anime judges. So I tend to score on the higher side for most shows and will give a lot of '10s' on shows I just adore. Every once in a while there are shows that are just beyond reproach and they get scored low or I have to write a bad review. :(

No way, you have an excellent writing style. I probably haven't read most of your reviews, but most of the ones I've run across are way way above the norm.
So what's been up? Hey! I just noticed something... we've seen about the same number of anime but only have seen 4 of the same ones. Pretty surprising, right!

Still haven't watched Ghost Hunt. *ashamed*

yup. i don't like ghost stories. I hate any horror/suspense genres however, Ghost Hunt made me watch because it's anime. The only thing that I can tolerate and STILL give me the goosebumps and terror. The stories made me drawn to it and made me want more that I can't sleep better for at least two days coz I always recall the stories.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a show with more than two protagonist. I'm not at all into horror but I can take a little bit of creepiness. (such a girl) Anime with complexity are great every once in a while. To many characters confuse the hell out of me though. I can NEVER remember their names.
When I was 14 I read The Count of Montecristo and after 100 pages I needed to go back and reread it while writing down every name and relationship of each character. It rocked socks though! lol In anime... not so much. But we all persevere, huh?
If you end-up seeing Lovely Complex first be sure to tell tell. It's great to get an opinion from someone qualified to give one.

You know, I never read the other comments on your wall (cept just now). You must write a ton of reviews! I have Lovely Complex and a few other shows on my short list to watch. I may try to sneak Ghost Hunt in ahead of some of the others on my list but I'm usually slow at watching anime.

Hey, I was going to write something, then I saw you were talking about a review of Ghost Hunt with the guy below me so I went to check out his review for my self! lol Well, I saw YOUR review before his so I read it (haven't read his yet). Damn fine review! It took me all of 30 to find and start downloading Ghost Hunt. I'm pretty psyched to watch it now. You did an excellent job describing the ambiance of the show, which isn't always the same as other horror shows. If you're squeamish like me and dismiss the 'genre' out-of-hand it's easy to miss a fine horror anime, even if its not gross (my problem). So I'm glad I read it.
But I can't remember what I was gonna say originally. Ugh. Isn't that how it is?
Oh, I'm really sorry (honestly, sorry man) to agree here but, Rostern is so right. I can't look at your ava. Makes me want to salt my own eyes. Got to delete your comments just not to see it. I've never had that with anything! I avoid chatting because of it. I HATE being rude to anyone for ANY reason. It hurts me personally if I am. So I hope this can be a kindness. It probably scares more than a few people away. Maybe that's the point but... I dunno.

that review was my fiirst and i didn't really know how i'm was going to write it out
I really liked ghost hunt becuase it has a great story line, the characters all interact with eachother in a way that you can relate to and the suspense makes you want to keep on watching even though it's night and you know you won't be able to sleep after you watch it

Well, that clears that up! I was looking at it in a totally different way. I'm no fan of bishounen centered anime, but, if the character actually fits into the story and and general makeup of the show, like it did so flawlessly in Kurogane both historically and contextually, it can really add to the show on a whole. I guess I just hadn't read the kinds of criticisms you have. So if it means having to turn away (or rescue) overly sensitive anime newbies from this very good show then so be it. Maybe someone should write a review like that about Gurren Laggaan. Its more overt there.

Hey, I gotta say, your review for Peace Maker Kurogane is a little off-kilter. Yes, there are gay guys in it but your review makes it sound so much like what it isn't. I really don't recognize the show at all from your description and I've seen it. You have some fine reviews of other shows though. This review just references the mildly suggestive reality of the homosexual activities going on in that era as though that was all this show was about. Or maybe I just missed a lot of what Kurogane actually was about.

Good reviews for Darker than Black, Gungrave, Get Backers, Ghost Hunt and Black Cat. I specially liked the Ghost Hunt review since I got some laughs from the "Naru is extremely hot part". I completely agree with your Ghost Hunt and Darker than Black reviews, they are both awesome shows that didn't get the attention they deserved. Keep up the good work.
Oh, you might like Wolf's Rain ( it has got your loved combo of blue eyes, some violence and dudes with some fanservice clothing ).

I even had forgot about you, sorry. I just readed your review again, and it rocks.
But your other reviews have some strange looking scores. 8 for Black Cat? That show sucked so hard for me that ill even read that review later just to know what the hell were you thinking when you gave it that high score =p. I like our opinios, anyway, i will, definitely, read the rest of your reviews. I just have one so faar, but i dont like to write in english, its kinda uncufortable. My words never get in harmony.
