Synopsis

One night at a rock concert, a mysterious man dies while leaving a floppy disc with a member of the Rutz Detective Agency. Soon they realize the disk contains information about a deadly new weapon under development. The heroes become involved in a game of political subterfuge and military espionage, hot on the trail of the killer!

Mixed Feelings

Tokyo Vice (or Tokyo Project in its most recent release) is an hour-long flick that, had you never randomly come across it, you would never know existed. A late 80s cyberpunk action OVA which performs about half-decent for what it is: an 80s cyberpunk action OVA. No, really, there are no other ways to describe it. If you want to find a 60 minute run of averageness when it comes to 80s anime, Tokyo Vice is the perfect pick.

Story
Introduction was creative but also mystifying in a bad sense as well. It went along with the anticipated spy meet up. Although at the same time could have been improper order of importance. First one makes sense for the mystery theme. The other suggests lack of common sense. Everyone has a hobby of sort or like outside of work shouldn't that be put aside when more important matters are at hand? Especially when lives are at risk?

Plot wasn't original. A mystery or task needed be dealt with. Didn't help that main character or not backstories weren't present. Although, a boss per-say ...

This is one of those anime films that I remember renting on VHS when I was a kid, over 20 years ago. Tokyo Vice aka The Tokyo Project was first released in Japan in 1988, but it was not released in the United States until 13 years later by Media Blasters.
