Highschool of the Dead can be easily summarized in two words; fan service. The show had the potential to do great things, but then the writers decided that they should take the typical zombie script and throw breasts all over it, and they do it an incredibly large amount of times. But did I enjoy the show? I would be a liar if I said I didn't, so let's break down what is H.O.T.D.

Story: 5/10
Initially, the show follows the typical zombie apocalypse genre with your ragtag group of characters thrusted together in order to survive. While the main premise of the show is survival against a man-eating horde, much of this is overshadowed by all of the gravity defying jiggling, awkward low angled shots, and blatant borderline hentai. It's obvious that this show was designed with fan service in mind because both the plot, especially near the end, and the dialogue suffered greatly. Granted, people didn't flock to this show in hopes of a catching story, but simply breasts and zombies.

Art: 9/10
This is where HOTD really shined. The animation was clean and the action sequences made me want to continue watching in hopes of more of the gore and brutality that the previous episode left me. Really, the only thing that is keeping me from giving it a 10/10 is the awkward camera angles. At times, it really took away from what was happening just because they wanted to fit one more shot in.

Sound: 7/10
I didn't really notice much of the soundtrack, not because I was so engrossed in what was going on around the protagonists, but because it wasn't anything spectacular. It wasn't bad and what was noticed helped with the drama and made the action a bit more intense, but there were times where I just didn't realize music was playing. HOTD did have a killer opening theme, as well as, some good ending songs, which were different for each ending.

Character: 6/10
This was probably my least favorite part about the show. While the story was underwhelming, I didn't watch for the story. They took the idea of a ragtag group with varying personalities and decided...well, let me just tell about them. The end of the world brings out someone's true nature, but I think they might have taken a bit too much creative liberty. You have Takashi Kumuro, our main protagonist, who is the leader of the group who finds that the best way to silence someone is to smack them, grab them by the collar, or casually make out with them. Rei Miyamoto is one of Takashi's best friends, but she is essentially Navi from the Legend of Zelda: OoT. Saeko Busujima is a kendo master who essentially believes that the best battle armor is the most seductive battle armor, keeping the female MMORPG armor alive. Saya Takagi, the whiny know-it-all who doesn't do much except boast about how smart she is. Kohta Hirano is a picked on school nerd who happens to turn into a trigger happy psychopath whenever you put a firearm in his hands. And finally, Shizuka Marikawa, who is simply there for fan service.

Enjoyment: 9/10
As the saying goes, "sex sells." I sat down and was brought to the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. Was such and such going to die? How are they going to get out of this mess? The action was great, what more do I need to say?

Overall: 7/10
This show does what it was intended to do. It mixed zombies and fan service and created a decently entertaining show. If you are looking for a serious zombie show with a chilling plot and a stellar cast, turn back now. This is not the show for you. But if you are looking for an action packed show full of jiggles and giggles, well step right up.
