I can not begin to express my love for hellsing. The original anime adaptation was awesome in its own right but the OVA is something spectacular. I have never watched an anime as intently as I watched hellsing. Despite how intense this anime is, it is not to be taken seriously. Far too many people see blood guts and gore and don't realize that this anime is really just a dark comedy. So much of it is meant to appeal to people with rather sick senses of humor that often times it is lost on people.

The action in the anime is great and the dialogue is witty and amusing at times. While it can get brooding, the show does a good job of interjecting humor or gore in to balance it out. One of the strongest points is the fact the producers knew when and how to direct the scenes. It gets serious when it needs to and keeps the humor where it needs to be.

The OVA was kept as close to the manga as possible and why there are a few changes here and there you would almost need to be reading the manga while watching the show to catch any of them.
