Beck (Anime) add (All reviews)
Mar 9, 2013
Beck takes the life of a regular schoolboy, and turns it into something you'd see in movies, WITHOUT super powers, aliens, robots, or anything out of that sort. It is a very down to earth, enjoyable and pretty well made anime.

The story is nothing about the end of the world or becoming Hokage, it's about Koyuki finding his passion and place in life, which I find is something I can relate to a lot more than in most anime.

The focus is mainly on his emotions and struggles, you don't get to see it from other people's perspectives, which makes it all the better as you can pretty much imagine yourself in his shoes. The interaction with other people is quite realistic and not all that perfect. You get fights, falling out, misunderstandings, and all that shit that happens in real life.

Although the sound did irk me off at the start, you do get used to it. In fact, I think it amazing that the voice artists had to speak both English and Japanese, I wonder if they actually fluently speak it or if they just had to memorize the lines. Speaking of which, the English in the songs isn't great either, however, the songs themselves, are pretty likeable. I've downloaded a couple and listen to them from time to time!

The art isn't the best, but fits in well with the story. The colours aren't overly vibrant and don't demand your attention, which also adds to the realistic feel of the anime.

All in all, I would suggest you give it a try.
It starts of somewhat slowly, but you get into the mood after a while.

Personally, I really enjoyed it
