From Kyoto Animation, producers of Clannad, Haruhi Suzumiya, K-On and Lucky Star comes another masterpiece amongst anime – Chuunibyou demo koi ga Shitai!, a beautifully crafted slice-of life-cum-romantic-comedy.

Though typical of the average teenager Yuuta Togashi, holds of a humiliating secret of once having ‘chuunibyou’ (or eighth grade syndrome) a phase in younger teenagers whom experience deep obsessions and excessive frolicking in one’s imagination which can produce many embarrassing memories; as he tries to leave his past behind him, whilst simultaneously moving into high school, he chances upon his mysterious new neighbour Rikka Takanishi – a beautiful yet intriguingly mysterious girl who lives obliviously as a chuunibyou herself.

With a quirky cast of fantastically rememberable characters ranging from a variety of somewhat stereotypical personalities, the entire arc of the story focuses on the development of the relationships between the protagonists and their constant battle between home and school life - typical of any teenager; it is an emotionally-charged roller coaster that excellently balances humour and with a dash of the seriousness of reality.

Beautifully and crisply animated with a realistic art-style and a stunning opening soundtrack coupled with its wonderfully written and straight to the chase story (no filler episodes - a bonus if you ask me), each episode draws you in to watching the next episode. Furthermore the series’ climax leaves it well rounded yet open to development should the producers wish to create a second season. This harem will almost certainly have you shipping harder than the average sailor!
