Highschool of the Dead is the anime genres attempt at a zombie apocalypse story by studio Madhouse. Following highschooler Takashi Komuro and a ragtag team of survivors as they try to find their families and figure out why this has happened.

The great thing about Highschool of the Dead is that it doesn't pretend to be anything that its not.The story is straightforward and doesn't need much explanation if you have seen anything even related to the zombie genre. The art is good, and the action is awesome, but prepare to be bombarded with fanservice to no end. No, really, that basically is the show.

The characters are mostly standard. Takashi is the standard highschool hero with a crush on the main girl, who quickly gets used to the new state of things. There's also the bitchy daughter of a politician, the katana wielding senpai, gun enthusiast nerd, and the 100% fanservice school nurse.

The story tries to go deeper into the standard ideas of how humans are the larger evil in this whole situation, but a lot of that gets overshadowed by fanservice so don't expect the show to provide much significant and moral meaning. Surprisingly enough though, I really enjoyed this show. It isn't something I will ever share with my parents, heck I would barely share this with my friends for the embarrassment.

This show could have been a lot more successful if it had decided to be a bit more serious, focus on the ideas and less on the boobs. So my overall is a 7 out of 10, because although I really enjoyed it, there are a lot of changes I would have made to the story to make it something really worthwhile.
