I don't usually write reviews for anime, but Itazura na Kiss was one anime that deserved one. I am a big fan of shoujo anime, and this is one of my favorites - if not THE favorite.
At the beginning, it looked like one typical comedy romance anime - the main character gets rejected by her beloved, that deeply despises her, but fate unites them. The characters' crazy family and friends help to make the story light and enjoyable, while the unilateral romance between Kotoko and Irie makes you want for more. Until episode 14, l was mildly enjoying it - the story was too similar to a lot of the ones l had watched - but it wasn't even my priority to watch it - l took almost a month to complete the series. But this anime is different from almost all shoujo anime that l had watched, for it continues after the "happy ever after". When almost all the other anime would end - with their love finally blooming, with the kiss, with the mutual confessions - this one continues. This anime shows what everyone imagines and wants to know after a good shoujo anime - what happened to the characters? Did their relationship work? Did they get married? Do they have kids? - what turned my mildly interest into an obsession to get to the end. l obviously recommend it, for it made me laugh and cry and feel that anything is possible if you fight for it - as Kotoko is a disaster at everything she does and gets rejected by Irie over and over again and still never gives up and gets to achieve everything she desired. If you are a fan of shoujo anime, this is one you shouldn't miss.
