I have read the Alexander Dumas' Count of Monte Cristo before I was interested in anime. Thusly I was curious to see how anime would tackle the characters and themes that are present in the book. The setting is a futuristic Paris and takes the perspective of Albert, the son of a notable general. This point of view is not found in the Dumas' novel, and thus a different perspective on the story as a whole.

What really stands out for me is the stunning animation that was used to tell the story. However, sometimes the visuals would be distracting from the overall story. Though it did give it a grand feeling, which is essential when telling this story. The music was also beautiful and writing was very well done.

If you are a fan of the book or even if you are unfamiliar with the story, this is a great anime to watch and enjoy.
