Hyouka (Anime) add (All reviews)
Jan 16, 2013
Being a fan of the mystery genre, Hyouka is one series which I liked watching.

The series focuses on the Classics Literature Club of Kamiyama High School where a curious girl, Eru Chitanda drags the rest of the classics club into certain situations which generally involve some kind of mystery. And the protagonist, Houtarou Oreki, who is a low-energy boy and also a part of the classics club, solves these 'mysteries'.

Although Hyouka deals with mysteries, they aren't very serious ones, that is, they dont involve any murders or any big crimes like the normal mystery genre animes do. It deals with the mysteries one may across in daily life.
Secondly, the way the protagonist solves the mysteries, using nothing more than his awesome deducing skills is what makes the anime worth watching. That is because, you are given the same information that he is given and yet the protagonist will always be a step ahead of you.
Also, thankfully, it did not have as much of romance as other animes dealing with high school life did.

The only reason why Hyouka wasn't a complete 10 for me was because it did not end well. The story started quite well and after every episode ended, I was left with questions like, "What might be the reason for that? Who might have done it after all?" and so on. However, the end wasn't as satisfying. Or at least, I did not like the way it ended.

The story is awesome(except the last one or two episodes) and the art is quite good too. The characters Houtarou Oreki and Eru Chitanda were also great. It was absolutely enjoyable and something which I wont forget for long. Overall, this is one anime which is a 'must watch' if you like mystery/slice of life.
