About the STORY
Story is very much original with different kinds of devil fruits users, Sky Island, Fishman Island, almost immortal Four Emperors, and lots of interesting yet weird people and animals in every island. Plot is packed with tons of adventure and actions at the same time you’ll laugh her hearts out. In every arc comes with the arrivals of new “NAKAMA” and new enemies which make it much more exciting because you know it will mean another marvelous adventure for the “MUGIWARA CREW”. Despite that, the main storyline is intact. One of the strongest points of this series is the seemingly endless adventure in every arc. Perhaps this series is the most adventure packed in the history of anime. You’ll experience not only adventure and laughter but at the same time you’ll experience a lot of drama not only with the main characters but also with supporting and recurring characters. Oh! Did I mention how hilarious some of the characters are? Most especially Luffy, Chopper and Usopp. You will laugh your hearts out when watching these guys. The only flaw of One Piece, if I may add, is the obvious fact that it’s been running for so long but lots of questions are still not answered like what kind of person is Monkey D. Dragon? Who the hell are Kaido and Big Mam of the four emperors? What the hell is the so called One Piece? What happened in the “Void History” 900 years ago? Why the hell the revolutionaries still not making a move? I believe having lots of unnecessary side stories makes the story of One Piece run on a slow pace. Because of that, there are too much unwanted episodes. There are so much side stories that have no relation with the main storyline. I guess that’s one of the reasons why the series has been running for so long. It’s been more than a decade and it feels like the story is still not getting any closer with the main plot. But then again, I guess the whole point of the story is not the destination which is the place where they can find ONE PIECE but rather the whole journey towards it and the adventures that comes with it.
About the CHARACTERS
This series has been one of the longest running series so it is granted that there are a huge number of characters. Each of the main and supporting characters are very interesting, you would want more of them in the coming episodes. Because there is a wide range of characters to choose from and enough time to explore their backgrounds considering the series has been running for more than a decade now you won’t get tired with the different characters. I am personally interested with the real story behind the revolutionaries most importantly because it is led by Luffy’s father. But what’s the most interesting and strongest point of the series are the whole crew characters. You will witness how Luffy magnificently managed to persuade each of them despite having different objectives and goal on why they join the crew. It is amazing how every member manages to have teamwork despite their different individuality and of course, how so hilarious that they still support, trust, and follow their captain despite Luffy being weird and sometimes can be an idiot. And to add to that, every member has significant role on the ship and has interesting skills and abilities. You just have to see yourself how magnificent the whole crew when they do their fight scenes. Whenever you see them together led by Luffy, you just feel the coolness of their whole group. They are hilarious, strong, kind, and extremely likeable characters. I believe almost all of them are some of the most famous characters of all time. Not only that, you will feel proud how they’ve gotten so strong for this past decade. It’s like watching your child grow up.
About MONKEY D. LUFFY
The main protagonist, Luffy, is the number one character on my hundred best anime character lists. He is so strong not only physically but mentally and emotionally which shows how not only his friends but even his enemies are amaze about him. Like what Mihawk said, that one by one Luffy turns the people around him into his allies which is why that more than anyone else sailing the seas Luffy possesses the most terrifying power. Not even realizing how a great man he is, that even the great Whitebeard, one of the emperor Shanks, the vice-captain Rayleigh, and even the enemies respects him, you will see how level-headed and dense Luffy can be. Though he can be so weird and stupid at times, which is one of the reasons why he is a lot more amazing and interesting than any other characters in any anime; you can still feel the sense of authority from him that really shows his capability as a captain. Funny that he can be so innocent yet so terrifyingly powerful. He personally picks out all his crewmates. He knows very well that there are things the even he can’t do, that’s why he trusts and have a strong faith towards his crewmates. Even if he’s very kind and most of the times acting like an idiot, he knows when to be strong and hard towards his crewmates because he carry the burden of being the captain and so he does important and harsh decisions in serious situations which make him a very effective leader. He doesn’t even need some monstrous supernatural energy or fictional magic to power-up. All he needs is the most basic for every living thing in the world, “FOOD” and he’s ready for some terrifying fight to the death. And to add, he doesn’t even looked like your typical action heroic type guy who have this certain coolness aura because of his outfit. My goodness, he’s just wearing a worn-out short, simple top, and plain slippers. I’ve never seen such plain looking protagonist in the hundred animes I’ve watched which I strongly believe the very reason why he’s the rarest male protagonist out there. Because of his weird antics, you wouldn’t even think how cool and amazing he is. And that makes him very original and most interesting character not only among the protagonist of all time but among all the characters in the anime world. I also love how much simple-minded he is and leave things to chances. I’ve been watching this series for so many years and my view about him never changed. In fact, every year I would find myself falling in love with his character more and more. I strongly believe that he’s the most amazing character ever made in the history of manga and anime.
About the ANIMATION
It may not have the best of the animation out there but still it is made amazingly in its own way. After so many years you can see its growth and you will realize that the animation is at best. The seiyus are also so amazing. They are well-picked and match perfectly with the characters. Most especially Luffy. I was even in shocked when I found out that his seiyu is actually a woman which makes her so talented.
It’s been a long review; after all, the series has been running for more than a decade now. It would be a sin not to say all the pent up ideas, opinions, and comments.
Be captivated with the amazing sleepyhead swordsman and almost like a vice-captain ZORO, the smart and greedy navigator NAMI, the hilarious and liar sharpshooter USOPP, the womanizer cook SANJI, the cute and scared cat doctor CHOPPER, the elegant and smart archeologists ROBIN, the hentai and cyborg shipwright FRANKY, the weird and funny musician BROOK, and of course, the hilarious, simpleminded, adventurous, weird, chivalrous, and absolutely cool captain MONKEY D. LUFFY. If you want to meet the most magnificent character ever in the history of animes then watch this. I won’t be exaggerating if I say that you will miss a great deal of your life if you won’t be hooked in this series. For so many years, I’ve been dying to see if Luffy can really be the “PIRATE KING”!
