No really that's what this series is about.
Ok the plot is basically about Takashi Komuro sees a strange guy outside his school's gates bite the school's PE teacher and all hell brakes loose as a virus that turns people in to zombies spreads rapidly through the school. Takashi meets up with 4 other survivors who in a normal world would not have anything in common (Takashi's childhood friend Rei, Saeko the kendo club president, the brainey Saya, weapons otaku Kohta, the ditzy school nurse Shizuka and the rescued Alice). Together they try to fight their way to safety through a zombie invested Tokyo avoiding a sadistic teacher who tries to form his own cult, thugs and of course thousands of zombies.
Profound it isn't but what do you expect from zombies, their not known for their strong personalities and the size of the female characters breasts is enormous especially those of Shizuka which are of comedy proportions.
Although there is a lot to dislike it just has that cool X factor. There is few better opening songs in anime which is by Kishida Kyoudan and the Akeboshi Rockets and each episode has its own end song. The animation is of a very high quality as well.
Although the story is pretty lame the characters are very strong and bring something to the series with the exception of Rei.
The female characters do spend a lot of time in a state of undress so I can understand why some might not like High School of the Dead but not me I loved it.
