Wow, where should I start. If Guy Ritchie, or Quintin Tarantino made an anime, it would be this. The story has loads of interesting, and diverse characters that labeling them as the norm of Japan would be absurd. Even the minor characters will leave an impression upon you. Like the teenage girl who wanted to commit suicide because her parents marital problems, and there inability to admit it. Just going on day by day as if there is no problem. I just love that non of the characters fit any stereotypes, . There is the bartender/loanshark whose strength, and anger akin the Hulk, there is the African Russian who sells russian sushi, and is more of a gentle giant, and of course the Irish headless rider who has a motorcycle instead of a horse. Even the noir info broker archetype is anything, but normal. The art is just fantastic. It's simple, but it is no way sloppy. The art always has clean lines, and well drawn characters, and backgrounds. The music has such a modern hip feel. With a mixture of catchy Jazz, Hip hop, and even reggae, it makes you wants you to buy the soundtrack. The story is fantastic. Just when you think the story becomes bland, they quickly show something that makes you retract that statement. Overall Durarara is a great anime that both anime, and non anime fans will love.
