Mixed Feelings
I watched Shomin Sample, and I have to say—this whole anime is ridiculous. It’s basically the same recycled plot you’ll find in every other male harem anime: a “normal” guy gets thrown into an absurd situation surrounded by girls, each representing a specific trope, and nothing of value really happens.

The show had the potential to be an interesting social experiment—a commoner boy introduced to a school of wealthy, ultra-sheltered girls to help them understand the outside world. But instead of any meaningful exploration, we get a series of dumb, repetitive gags and eye-roll-worthy misunderstandings. And I can’t believe I’m even saying this, but the fanservice is boring. Yes, the girls are “sheltered,” but that doesn’t mean they have to be portrayed as completely brainless. I get that it’s supposed to be funny, but it just ends up feeling bland and lazy.

The characters are shallow cutouts of every overused anime archetype: the tsundere, the sickly loli, the deadpan maid, etc. Kimito, the protagonist, is another bland “nice guy” harem lead, except his defining gimmick is pretending to have a muscle fetish so the school doesn’t kick him out. It’s as dumb as it sounds—and not in a fun way.

The only thing I genuinely enjoyed was the OP and ending outro, mostly because they’re so chaotic it literally looks like someone was on crack when they made them. They’re at least visually interesting, even if they don’t match the flat, uninspired tone of the actual episodes.

Animation is fine, music is forgettable, and the writing is painfully safe. The show doesn’t take any risks, doesn’t develop its characters, and ultimately offers nothing that hasn’t already been done (and done better) in other series.

If you're hoping for clever satire, emotional depth, or even just genuinely funny comedy—look elsewhere. Shomin Sample is a bland, trope-ridden, and ultimately forgettable mess.

I'd say mostly watch this when you're bored and you're trying to kill time.
