Wistoria: Wand and Sword is a 12-part anime that oddly echoes Harry Potter in terms of magic and swordsmanship, especially in the scenes like magical academy, spellcasting and all sorts of magical events. But also, it shares strong resemblances to Mashle: Magic and Muscles in terms of magic users and non-magic users being put under tight restrictions of society classes. Unlike Mashle, in which the arrogant hero was extremely overpowered, Wistoria has the protagonist working toward his deserved power level, engaging the audience more in battles and action sequences.
Writing solid action stories keeping up the pace with great narration that portrays backstory of many characters has shown that there are indeed some childishness, but it generally remains interesting. These sword magic sequences thus bring an exciting flavor to all fights making a delight for all the fantasy as well action-anime lovers. Fun show: maybe not push-the-envelope new, but definitely enjoyable and entertaining. This really brings it to life for magic academy fans with a different take on things.
