Overall review: As a whole from S1 to S5 (not including ova, or non-canon movies) the show is magnificent, and definitely worth a watch. Especially if you are into harems, romance, and fighting-related anime then I can highly recommend this to you. I will provide pros and cons below and some quick notes about the series if you are looking to explore it further.
Strengths of 'Date A Live':
- Heavy amounts of harem; as the protagonists' surrounds himself with girls which is one of the primary aspects of the show from Seasons 1 through 5.
- Above Average Character writing; each character is very much "their own person" and has specific quirks, and aspects which make them their own.
- Decently Fast Paced; as the show continues, the pacing tends to speed up (slowing down when necessary), so it is generally a good show for those with low-attention spans, or like faster paced anime.
- Lessons & Heartbreaking moments; although somewhat few and far between, the show gives glimpses of motifs/lessons for the watcher to learn from, and our heartfelt moments which flesh out the characters (or even provide a good tear-jerker).
Weaknesses of 'Date a Live':
- Slow Start; through the first few episodes, the show can be somewhat hard to get into as it takes a while to get going.
- Repetitive Themes; although it is a major aspect of the show itself and can lead to some very interesting scenes, the "dating" aspect of the show can sometimes feel a bit drawn out, and a bit predictable.
