This show focuses on the life of a boy who lives with a split personality girl. One half of her is the sweetest, cutest, most innocent girl ever to live, but when her other half comes out, all hell breaks loose as she is a killing machine.
This show is EXTREMELY graphic. when people die, they dont just get shot or fall over dead, oh no. they get their bodies mutilated and decorate the walls. heads flying off, hearts getting ripped out, you name it. But it is done in such a way that it makes it amazing to watch, its not just violence for the sake of violence (at least in my opinion)
Not only is there blood and guts kinda thing going on, there are other various things that add to guro nature of the show, such as animal beatings, torture, and even rape (of children no less)
You get lots of back story on the characters which is really nice. You get to know the characters really well, and its always entertaining to see their interactions.
The twists that come at the end are amazing, and the story is brought to a close in a fitting matter, no disappoints there.
I've seen both dub and sub, the english vocal cast is really good, especially kira who plays the main female lead, but the japanese definitely has more emotion and enthusiasm in it.
Elfen Lied gets a perfect 10. Watch it, and be amazed.
