Patience is a virtue they say. And its true in many cases for me when watching long running shounens like Black Rover. Had i decided to write a review for this after 30 or so episodes i might have only given it a 5. Asta is one of the most annoying protagonists ever. Constantly screaming and shouting. A complete idiot. Theres not much story development. Theres to much time wasted on Asta being a complete idiot.

But then around episode 30, or the Midnight Sun arc something starting to happen. An antagonist, more backstory, world building, and pieces of the story puzzle starting to take stage. There are some great fights. Animation is top. And thanks to this we have to endure less and less of the Asta being stupid and boring shounen ”humor” stuff. And from there to the end its a wild ride with the Elf arc being some of the best there is in shounen. And by the time the show has ended it all feels a bit empty. Both because the journey ended up bring so great but also because it ends with cliffhanger and no resolution.

One thing that stands consistantly good is the music. Both the OP/ED and the original score.

It may not reach the heights of the big three in shounen (Bleach/One Piece/Naruto/ but its not far of at its best.

9/10
