The rest of show is a mix of romance & comedy as everyone is in love with either the MC or the mermaid and trying to win them over while the couple stay glued together.
While the original show and manga were fine they were the definition of mid. Something that doesn't really leave a mark and lacks it's own sense of style. As mentioned the show pulls ALOT from Urusei Yatsura but without the bite that one had coming off as the diet version.
That said the Dub elevates this one. The jokes land and the delivery is on point. Also quite a few pop cultural references and puns were added that would only work in english so I highly recommend watching that over the sub.
