Mixed Feelings
Spoiler
This has to be one of the most rushed series I’ve read so far in my mind. The pacing of this series moves at neck breaking speeds because the fact of the matter is that no character in this series can get at least 5-10 pages of character development. Everything in this series happens so quickly that you really wonder what the point of it all was. There is so much of this series that is left unchecked, unanswered to the point that I think that some people would have to go as far and say “this wasn’t worth reading because the author rushed it”. I really think that this deserves at least an extra 20 chapters and a do-over because this more like a draft or concept to me story wise because the transitions between Zech’s stages of life are so disorienting coupled with the half or middle chapters that you don’t get to encapsulate what it was like for Zechs to grow up other than those first couple of chapters. Moreover, I often found that there felt like there were often recalls back to the past that weren't impactful in any way because of the rushed nature of the story. There is undeniably so much potential with this series that the author hasn’t examined and it’s really a shame that the series was done like this in the end. The magic system, the cultural practices and roots of Zechs, why Zechs can’t read, who were the main political players and what it would mean for a nation, like all of that was glossed over for a friendship ending that leaves you scratching your head like are they going to make more chapters? But it all ended flat. The amount of panels of the many characters I simply didn’t care about didn’t help to the disappointment that comes with this series and that’s to put it in all honesty.
