I liked it because it's Free, but I have a lot of mixed feelings about this movie.
The first thing is that I would have preferred it to be in series format, because there are so many things happening at the same time, that it seems to me that it would have worked better that way, giving the necessary development to each character and situations. The pace of the movie is fast and it jumps from one side to the other all the time, so many interval scenes don't appear.
The focus of the film is Haru, but at the same time the film wants to develop the rest of the stories, which fall a little short.
My main problem with the movie is that it revisits a plot point I thought we had already gotten over: why does Haru swim? That question is supposed to have already been answered in the second season (although in this one its resolution seemed a bit rushed to me). If he already knows his reasons for swimming, why does the movie take so much time showing us his dilemmas about it?
In that sense, I would have liked Haru's plot to take a similar path to that of Ikuya and Rin: they both hit a wall and decide to make a specific decision regarding their futures, with the risks that this entails.
I like Free's drama, but in this movie, it did seem very gratuitous, meaningless. Likewise, I do like when characters like Haru (so calm, so cold) have their moment of katarsis.
Despite all this, I liked seeing what path each character took, how they faced and overcame their challenges, each one in their own way, especially Sosuke.
What I didn't like at all was the ending. A bit of spoilers: was it necessary to add a fantastic element to a series that until now was 100% non-fantasy? It's as if KyoAni had run out of ideas to add drama to the situation and it occurred to them to add that. I think there are a lot of things that could have led Rin and Haru to argue, other than it being a fantastical element that forced everything.
I recommend it? To see the outcome of Free, it makes sense to watch this movie, but I only recommend it for that reason, it's not like High Speed, which I recommend watching even if you haven't seen any of the rest of the series, because it has soul in itself.

Me gustó porque es Free, pero tengo muchos sentimientos encontrados con esta película.
Lo primero es que hubiese preferido que fuera en formato de serie, porque hay tantas cosas pasando al mismo tiempo, que me parece que hubiese funcionado mejor de esa forma, dándole el desarrollo necesario a cada personaje y así mismo a las situaciones que se generan. El ritmo de la película es rápido y salta de un lado al otro todo el tiempo, por lo que muchas escenas de intervalo no aparecen.
El foco de la película es Haru, pero al mismo tiempo la película quiere desarrollar el resto de historias, que se quedan un poco cortas.
Mi principal problema con la película es que retoma un argumento que pensé que ya habíamos superado: ¿por qué nada Haru? Se supone que esa pregunta ya se contestó en la segunda temporada (aunque en esta su resolución me pareció un poco apresurada). Si él ya sabe sus motivos para nadar, ¿por qué la película se toma tanto tiempo mostrándonos sus dilemas al respecto?
En ese sentido, me hubiese gustado que el argumento de Haru tomara un camino similar al de Ikuya y Rin: ambos chocaron contra un muro y deciden tomar una decisión específica con respecto a sus futuros, con los riesgos que esto supone.
Me gusta el drama de Free, pero en esta película, sí me pareció muy gratuito, sin sentido. Igualmente, sí me gusta cuando personajes como Haru (tan calmados, tan fríos) tienen su momento de katarsis.
A pesar de todo esto, me gustó ver qué camino tomaba cada personaje, cómo se enfrentaban y superaban sus retos, cada uno a su manera, sobre todo Sosuke.
Lo que sí no me gustó para nada fue el final. A continuación, un poco de spoilers: ¿era necesario meter un elemento fantástico a una serie que hasta ahora era 100% no-fantasía? Es como si KyoAni se hubiese quedado sin ideas para darle drama a la situación y se les ocurriera meter eso. Creo que hay un montón de cosas que podrían haber llevado a Rin y Haru a discutir, que no fuera un elemento fantástico que forzara todo.
¿La recomiendo? Para ver el desenlace de Free, tiene sentido que se vea esta película, pero sólo la recomiendo por eso, no es como High Speed, que recomiendo verla incluso si no viste nada del resto de la serie, porque tiene alma en sí misma.
