Deep and dark music represent the war and the hardship Japan and everyone living during that period is facing at that time. The bright color also reflecting the hidden beauty of people living at that time. Like the love story of Kenshin and Tomoe.
The character is Tomoe and deep and complex fighting between her hatred and love for Kenshin is draw beautifully.
Realistic is probably the way this ova depicted, it is way more tone down compared to the manga and tv series and become it own thing I love it.
. Sometime I kinda wish this quality of animation is present in all Kenshin episode but that would unreasonable
