Mixed Feelings
It is quite difficult for me to evaluate this anime. My opinion can even be considered incomplete, as I'm not very familiar directly with the original manga.
Starting with the first episode, we got lively colorful animation along with an interesting and even shocking plot, which whipped up into a great cocktail and I, without dragging on, continued watching. Unfortunately, I can't say that the same "wow!" effect was evoked by the next 11 episodes. Even to me, a person who has only slightly read the manga of the same name, it seemed that the events were terribly cut and chewed up, as if by the very same ghouls. This was the main reason for my indifference to the fate of the main characters. I just didn't have time to feel anything for some of them when others were thrown into the string of terrible events. Not to mention the main character Kaneki Ken.
There's a lot to talk about the characters, but first and foremost I want to mention the main character. At first we see a typical milksop-kun who laments over what he's become. But then he becomes a real monster, a killing machine. Plus, it's very hard to empathize with characters who, if not immortal, are very, very hard to kill. So soon I switched to the side of the so-called doves (CCG investigators) in the guise of Kotaro Amon and his wonderful partner Kureo Mado.
The only one I liked from the opposite camp was Shuu "Monsieur French" Tsukiyama, with his poisonous purple hair, bright costumes, and very interesting approach to meals. To my deep regret this character was sorely lacking most of the time, and by the end he's thrown into the story as a fan service bait. The main character, to me, was absent from episodes 1 through 11, and only managed to fill that niche at the end of the last episode, which in turn put a very insecure three dots in this uneven story.
