What makes this particular series so enjoyable is... well, to be honest, not many people can explain WHY they love 'Spice and Wolf', or the songs used in it. I found myself downloading MP3 versions of both Openings only to listen to them over and over again on repeat. I find it strange because I wouldn't usually like this kind of music.

I will try my best to explain in words why I have come to fall in love with Spice and Wolf.

The story is of a merchant named Kraft (Craft?) Lawrence who unexpectedly comes across a wolf harvest deity named Holo.

"Okay, typical boy-meets-girl romcom" - uh, no.

I would first like to ask you think of the word "Intimacy". What does it mean to be intimate? Certainly, if a couple is ready to 'do' eachother in bed, they are considered 'intimate'. But what is TRUE intimacy? Can two people be close and share a bond so strong that nothing could pull them apart, even though they've never shared a kiss, or swore an oath? That is what most Anime series are lacking. They do not attempt to build and weave a bond so unseparable that even God himself can't tear them apart - instead, they get right to the sex-scenes or kissing scenes, etc etc. Spice and Wolf is clean, innocent, and very emotional.

Holo - the main female protagonist of the series - is depicted as a Lone Wolf (literrally) at first, who rarely makes interaction with humans. After having met Lawrence - the main male protagonist - well, things changed. For better or for worse? Well, who knows?

The music really complements the series nicely. Again, I wouldn't usually like songs like these, but I just couldn't help myself. The atmosphere portrayed by the songs and the Anime itself is strong enough to make you shed tears. "Romantic, vintage, classy, and sweet" are the words that come to mind, but you cannot really explain it. It's just that inseparable bond... I guarantee you will cry at least once watching this!
