With the increasing amount of generic, copy-and-paste art styles, only once in a while do I come across a manga that amazes me with its beautiful and unique illustrations. Veil, an art portfolio masquerading as a manga, captures the everlasting aesthetic of European 20th century lifestyle, displaying countless different art pieces and fashion designs popular during that era. Ironically, for a manga about a blind main female lead, the manga focuses most of its strengths visually rather than through dialogue.
Characters; Apart from the monologue pages (essentially a page without any paneling, instead offering a paragraph of text from the point of view of a certain character), most of the characterization is done through short interactions between the two leads as they live their daily lives. Overall, they're not amazing characters by most standards, but there is not much to dislike about them either.
Story: I can say the same thing about the story. Most of it is fluffy and wholesome moments in their daily lives. I question who decided to put the manga under the drama genre. Since 58 chapters in, I have yet to see any drama apart from the main leads having small disagreements that are resolved in the same chapter.
Art: I can’t give enough praise on how much I love the art in this manga. Hell, I only gave it such a high rating because I love how the artist references modern art and fashion through every small detail across the manga. I won’t say anything else, just look up the different illustrations in veil because god damn it's good.
