Mixed Feelings
tl;dr: A pretty repetitive gag manga about a party of RPG members unsuccessfully trying to improve their diet.

Alicia’s Diet Quest is a parody of the typical RPG style party of heroes goes to defeat the demon lord type story with the twist being that 2/3 of the members of the party are incredibly unhealthy. The priestess, Alicia, loves eating so much that she’s fat to the point that she can’t keep up with the party. On the other hand, the knight, Sara, hates eating and is thus too scrawny to be all that useful in battle. Both of them claim to want to change, but they’re pretty at doing so. The hero, Ryan, does his best to help them, but for the most part just ends up playing the straight man to their nonsense.

The manga does have some pretty interesting comedy that combines RPG mechanics with diet elements, like making the calorie count of MP restoration potions a major issue. However, there’s not all that much variety to it. The first volume hits most all of the good gags, and the rest of the manga is just repeating the same ones with aesthetic differences. The repeats may be better executed at times, but it still feels pretty repetitive. As such, the comedy in the manga gets pretty stale.

The manga doesn’t really have anything else going for it either. The start of the first volume has some hints of romance and character arcs, but they’re dropped pretty much immediately and go nowhere. The plot is just random nonsense having to do with dieting without any sense of cohesiveness to it beyond the eventual goal of defeating some nebulous demon king somewhere at some point. And in case it wasn’t already clear, this is all fantasy based so none of the dieting related information is useful in the slightest as applied to real life. It isn’t really inspirational either. The art is somewhat generic in terms of style and doesn’t really do anything interesting in terms of designs either so while I wouldn’t call it bad, I didn’t really feel it added to the manga either.
