The plot is somewhat intricate. Ciel is a young noble who's parents were killed in a fire and after they died, he was kidnapped and tortured. He then meets Sebastian who is a demon. Sebastian and Ciel form a contract in which Ciel sells his soul to Sebastian so that Sebastian will kill all those who kidnapped and tortured Ciel. Each mission in each episode shows each of Sebastians hidden strengths in what he goes through to protect his master, Ciel. Ciel matures much throughout the series and backstories about each member living in the Phantomhive household are revealed. Although this anime is dark, there are quite a few moments where you can't help but laugh.
I watched the Funimation dub and I thought they did an outstanding job with their dub. If anyone has seen Ouran High School Host Club, Sebastian is voiced by the same man who voices Kyouya Ootori. I thought his voice fit perfectly with Sebastians character. Also, if anyone has seen Romeo x Juliet, the lady who voices Juliet does a fabulous job with the voice of Ciel Phantomhive. If anyone has seen Fruits Basket, Lau is voices by the same voice actor as Kyo Sohma!
The art was beautiful, a bit Lolita-esque. The animators really grasped a feeling of this 19th century Victorian time era. The animation is very crisp and clear and the colors are very descriptive help define the characters.
Overall I completley enjoyed this anime, mainly because you have no idea what to expect! Its story is so different from the rest which makes it so unpredictable. I completley reccomend seeing it, ignore anyone who tells you otherwise!
