Detective Conan Movies Rewatch Before Watching Movie 26: Movie 22

Movie 22 finally veers into more mature themes not typically seen in the DC universe. Here, the PSB set up Kogoro as the suspect through underhanded methods in order to protect Japan, and the movie successfully made the PSB into the bad guys. In a not-so-subtle way, the movie both criticizes and praises law enforcement and their "do whatever is necessary to protect the nation". At the end of the day, movie 22 is similar to movie 17: a propaganda movie, and the movie does a fine job executing this aspect.

With that said, movie 22 struggles with storytelling, and the case was difficult to follow. It also does not help that 1/3 of the movie was spent explaining the various terms and details of law and prosecution, which made the movie somewhat dry. Lastly, IoT terrorism, while not impossible in real life, just felt silly in this movie.

Movie 22 was an ambitious movie and wanted to present something unusual, though the execution wasn't consistent enough to launch it into a good DC movie. However, I dig Amuro's disgusting line of "my lover is this country". 6/10
