tl;dr: A manga that starts off a happy go lucky rom-com that slowly gets way deeper and darker than I expected it to, though is a bit rough in doing so.

The repeated theme in this manga is having to choose between love and something else. The most prominent of these choices involves Koki having to choose whether to romantically pursue his childhood friend Ayumi. Unbeknownst to her, she has powers tied to her emotions that cause natural disasters. And according to a mysterious girl named Hikari, if Ayumi finds out that Koki loves her it would result in a disaster extreme enough to destroy the world. And thus to prevent that, Hikari is willing to go out with Koki instead.

The start of the manga is pretty light hearted. Yes, the fate of the world is technically hanging in the balance, but it doesn’t take itself all that seriously. Natural disasters such as meteorites suddenly shifting course and hitting the Earth happen, but they never actually hurt anyone and it doesn’t really get into the nature of what the powers or anything like that. Rather, it’s purely comedic love triangle hijinks. Koki is in love with Ayumi and can’t admit it, but at the same time he can’t abandon her or stop loving her either. Hikari isn’t really in love with Koki, at least not at first, and is basically just seducing him to save the world. And Ayumi is a tsundere that won’t admit she’s in love with Koki, but still tries to get in the way of Hikari seducing him. Though at the same time, Ayumi can tell that Hikari doesn’t really love Koki and thus doesn’t see her as much of a threat and Hikari doesn’t personally care about Koki liking Ayumi more than her either, so there’s not really any real tension and they’re pretty friendly. This phase isn’t all that deep, but it’s pretty amusing.

As the manga progresses, it gradually gets more and more serious. The cast expands to include a number of new characters with their own motivations and backgrounds, including those working both with and against the main three. This includes an evil corporation that wants to steal the powers from Ayumi, and while action is never really focused on in the manga, the evil corporation is fully capable of violence and characters including those in the main cast really die. The powers in general are also focused on much more, with the damage they cause actually mattering. Koki, Ayumi and Hikari all get backgrounds that explain their motivations and make the relationship situation a lot more complicated. The love triangle that started out comedic becomes incredibly dramatic once Hikari actually falls in love with Koki and feels jealous of Ayumi, while Ayumi actually begins to see Hikari as a threat and worries about Koki getting taken away. There is a lot of angst, envy, self-hate, and desperation, with a lot of painful emotional beats.

The writing manages to do lots of things well. Though it does feel like things are dragging on at times, it does manage to flesh out Ayumi, Hikari, their relationships, and their characters arcs really well. It also does a pretty good job at fleshing out most of the side characters. However, the biggest failing would have to be Koki. He’s the typical rom-com protagonist that’s pretty dense and not decisive at all. And that’s perfectly fine for rom-coms, as if the protagonist was fast on the uptake and decisive the manga would be instantly over. However, this manga veers away from being a rom-com, but Koki doesn’t really change much at all until the end which makes him really annoying for a lot of the manga. And trying to throw everything in the end results in things being pretty rushed so his development didn’t feel all that well written. Still, with as unsatisfying as rushed the ending was, the epilogue is pretty long and manages to tie up everything in a pretty satisfying manner so the final impression that the manga leaves is pretty good.

The art style is pretty generic and the art quality isn’t amazing but overall the art is pretty solid and shows off characters well. Character designs are pretty solid for the grounded setting.
