Beck (Anime) add (All reviews)
Nov 16, 2011
There are a couple anime's that simply do not allow themselves to be pigeonholed into short plot sentences, Planetes and Beck are two that I can think of at the moment. The story line is that a young kid named Koyouki is trying to make it in a band with his friends; and that's honestly it. Despite this, leaving the review of Beck there certainly would not do it justice. For whatever reason, this anime is really enjoyable. The combination of the quirky art style, the great soundtrack, and the the genuine feel of this anime really makes it difficult to stop watching.

Speaking of the soundtrack, there are very few Anime's where the English dub is actually on par or better than the original Japanese soundtrack, and Beck certainly rates on this list, as well, the music feel is kind of American grunge, so the English voices fit the mood much better than the Japanese soundtrack in my opinion.

Story wise, Beck actually covers quite a bit despite the simple premise; focusing mainly on self confidence and relationships, but again it does so in a truly genuine and sincere way that makes you really connect with the show.

Beck is not a perfect anime by any means, but it was thoroughly enjoyable nonetheless, and I absolutely recommend it for anybody, seasoned anime viewers or people looking to find a place to start.
