My opinion is that this series definitely suffered because it focused so much on the yokai side of things while neglecting the human aspect despite the fact that our protagonist is 3/4 human and only 1/4 yokai. The only time I ever felt invested was whenever the human characters aka Rikuo's mom and the Kiyojuji squad, were on screen.
They're always a breath of fresh air considering how much time is spent being suffocated under the oversaturation of the arrogant and honestly unlikable yokai of the Nura clan.
