Preliminary (4/22 eps)
Guilty Crown is a futuristic mecha anime which takes place in Tokyo in 2039. Ten years earlier a virus, "Lost Christmas," plagued Japan, which is now controlled by a company called GHQ who found the vaccine for the virus. The protagonist, Ouma Shu is a normal high school boy who is living day by day wondering what his purpose is in life. One day he finds a girl who is injured singing to herself, she happens to be a famous internet pop sensation and also a member of a resistance group that opposes the government. Ouma Shu, through many events, is given the ability of kings which enables him to take weapons from the hearts of people in order to fight.

Ill start with the art. The art is amazing, each character is given a lot of detail, and Ive been impressed with how the battles have looked so far as well. The coloring has been very well done and it just looks amazing.

The sound is also very nicely done, sets the tone of each scene very well. Also the main female character is a singer so we can look forward to some more songs by her. She sang one so far and it sounded really good.

Onto characters. Ouma Shu at first seems like a wimp... he doesnt say anything to anyone and tries to live without really standing out. However after his encounter with Inori Yuzuriha (female lead), he realizes many things and thus must change. It also shows that he is easily influenced by others and has trouble trusting people. His strength seems to come from the bond he has formed with Inori Yuzuriha and thus he is able to fight for what he thinks is right. The other characters havent really been given much focus on... so itll be interesting to see how they are introduced and develop.

One thing that is very obvious about this anime is that it resembles Code Geass. They are similar in the sense that they are both based around resistance groups fighting the government and the fact that the main characters are given a special ability. Also they're both mecha animes so it adds to the similarity. Any anime now a days that has a similar theme to Code Geass will be compared to it. Guilty Crown may have similarities but I feel that itll go in its own direction and if done correctly will turn out really good.

Guilty Crown is very good so far and a lot of unanswered questions should lead to a great story. It will be interesting to see how the characters develop and see what direction the resistance group takes.
