okay so it isn't all bad. this has pretty good production values to kick things off. unfortunately that does not translate to "faithful to the original", which is both this show's saving grace and primary blight. this series is at least as not egregiously heteronormative as the vn (fortunately nowhere near as bad as fate), and i think that the handling of magic / retarded shonen stuff (how many times did shiki practically lose limbs in the vn only to be fine the next day?) is much better when put next to the game. too bad it picks the route with the least amount of plot and character development and supplements this with haphazard attempts to tell what is already a shaky story to begin with. if you are drunk or your hormones are raging you can add +2~3 points to the score. if you can suspend disbelief for the entire series then you can easily add a couple more points.
