the biggest misconseption is that its a spit fetish manga which couldnt be farther from the truth.
the creator of this series does alot with unconventional relationships and this is no different, the spit is a showcase of the two main characters bond, and while its an odd way to show it its different, and its meant to be weird. you learn as you go on that urabe isnt violent and she isnt threatening shes just a shy girl who is ensuring shes safe, she just got together with tsubaki basically days after meeting him and she doesnt know him and he doesnt know her, but they both know that theres something between them and theyre willing to see where it goes, as the manga goes on urabe uses her scissors less and less towards tsubaki because she knows that hes not going to hurt her in any way, and even when she is using them she never intends to hit him with them, in fact when she gives him even the slightest scratch she apologizes profusely and ensures hes okay.
a big complaint i see people have is about the ending so spoilers from this point forward
at multiple points the tease the idea of them kissing and by the end of the manga they havent kissed once, and it seems like they may kiss at the very end but then decide not to, because urabe mentions how if they do they wont need to do their daily spit ritual since a kiss would be the same. this stops them and while ppl may be upset they dont get to see them kiss thats ignoring how important this ritual is to them, its a main staple of their relationship as it is now and neither of them are ready to give it up just yet, so they decide not to. i feel like if they kissed in the end it wouldof just been a whatever ending but the addition of that really makes it feel like their story is going on afterwords even if we arent viewing it. it makes them stay the characters that theyve always been and it makes sense to those characters, i love this manga and enjoyed all of it from start to finish, even though by the end the mangaka states how stupid of an idea it all is its still very entertaining and very sweet
