Both FMA series are great , but the first series stop following the manga after some episodes . The story takes part in a world where instead of physics people use alchemy to transmutate objects from one state to another . Ed and Al are trying to fulfill their goal , so that they can fix their mistake . The series has a combination of drama and comedy that makes it really good . The story is great - Although the series doesn't follow the manga storyline (that is suposed to make the series bad ),It's story is great in it's own ways (the new characters,the new battles,the new plot) . Everything in this series is as good as the manga and Brotherhood (believe it or not ) . FMA 2003 has everything that I love so I'm sure that is you like comedy,drama,self sacrifice,love,fufiling goals this is the anime for you .
