Ga-Rei Zero is not a story one watches to be surprised. If you've read even a bit of the manga, you know exactly who will live and who will die, and the first two episodes basically show what happens in the end. So the point of the anime is not the epic plot twists or anything like that. It's the RIDE of showing how the characters have become the way they are by the time the Ga-Rei manga begins. But man, it is a GOOD ride. I'm not even a fan of shoujo-ai, and I enjoyed the series, most likely because it's debatable whether the two girls like each other more than just sisters or not.The fights are especially fun to watch, if you don't mind a lot of blood. The animation is great, too. Really, I'd give it a 9 or 10, except those are reserved for anime I'd watch more than once. Ga-rei was very good, but once was more than enough for me.

Story - 9/10. The story of Yomi and Kagura is both sweet and heartbreaking. And, I mean, it's gotta be pretty damn good if it starts off leaving pretty much no surprises but is still badass, tear-jerking, and interesting. I also think it's one of the better school girls with magic powers anime I've seen in a long time.

Art - 9/10. Nothing super original, but the art is clear and crisp and the animation is well-done.

Characters - 7/10. I wasn't in love with any of the characters, but I was sympathetic to all of them. Some of the characters are a little too ridiculous, though.

Entertainment - 8/10. It was very entertaining, but I wasn't glued to my seat like I would be for a 9 or a 10. Still, an 8 from me is pretty darn good.

Overall - 8/10. Like I said earlier, I wouldn't watch it again, but doing so one was an excellent use of my time.
