First of all, don't be tricked by VN-only readers who can't even stand the design being changed partially on just on the hair design and not even care to see the goddamn good later part of this season.

Secondly, for those coming in to see only the mecha vs monster and feel frustrated, I also want to say Muv-Luv, isn't like what the poster shows. It's a drama, yes a drama that's why they have a lot of talking. But it's a goddamn good drama actually if you go in full. Some VN readers also made this mistake and cursing it without knowing the truth (that's why even if you gonna start the VN-don't rush the romcom first part).

As a VN reader, I can say that this adaptation is actually serviceable. Although not adapting Extra or at least Unlimited make it start with a shaky base (since the early part requires Unlimited as a context), they nailed most of the later scenes very nice. Yes, the later part of the anime is very interesting with drama part is enhanced and the battle part is actually goddamn good that they even care to put thing from the manga too.

And because of things are still delivered that good despite the low expectation and hanky-panky on the 2D department, I can praise the anime productions to that. OP and ED are surprisingly a banger too, although originally sounds a bit off from what was known from the original VN OSTs.

Overall, it is a good adaptation of Muv-Luv Alternative, but of course without the missing two first part and this season being 1/3 of the full series, it is still incomplete. But still, I want to give a good rating on this because it is still good despite that, no doubt on that.
