Ima, Soko Ni Iru Boku tells a story about Shu, an energetic and cheerful kid with no sense of danger that meets a stranger girl and attempts to befriend her and save her from her kidnappers, leading him to a twisted world where he finds pain and have to endure it in order to help his new found friend. The story is a Castle In The Sky with tragedy so harsh that resembles a soft neorealist narrative and aesthetics.
Ima, Soko ni Iru Boku is beautiful. It has a anti-war message and deliveries it splendid, throughout the show we are startled by the harshness and rawness of its beautiful images and story. It's definitely worth looking into to even as today since it is short and an enjoyable bittersweet experience.
