I got around to re-watching this movie after around 3 years. In this second viewing I really approached the movie differently than the first time and it left me with an entranced feeling that is impossible to describe. I simply had to review this movie.

Tenshi no Tamago or Angel's Egg is an animated movie from 1985 that defies all logic and expectations you'll have. A completely unique experience unlike any other I've ever seen. Especially if you're a fan of older anime or psychological where you try to piece together clues and try to uncover what the movie is actually about, which is actually not even possible with this film. It's not exactly easy to tell if this movie is nonsense or actually deep, but i do know that the emotions put into this movie are very real.

Story(N/A)

This movie wasn't created with some sort of pattern or an original idea in mind, i feel like it's simply too deep or subjective for that. But I did some research and found out that the creator of Angel's egg, Oshii Mamoru has said that not even he knows the "true" meaning of Angel's Egg. Because of this, and the amount of ways the audience can interpret the message of this movie, I won't be going any deeper into the "story". And even if i did, i doubt i could explain to you what this movie exactly means. I would be lying if i did say i know what it truly meant.

It's also interesting to note how Oshii lost his faith as a Christian right before creating this movie.

Art (10/10)

For a movie made in 1985, the art and animation is superb. The animation truly shines in the flow of our main character's hair. The depiction of a dark and grim world and various other elements of the setting are extremely detailed and greatly contribute to the overall ambiance. Although it may have a few instances where the artwork may lack in quality when it comes to our characters, it doesn't do the movie any real harm.

Sound (10/10)

The soundtrack is absolutely gorgeous and it's easily my favorite thing to come out of this movie. It has this beautiful and unnerving vibe to it. It carries the atmosphere of this movie to an even higher level.

Characters (8/10)

Our characters are barely developed, they're not created to be actual characters but they serve more as an representation of the entire movie. The only thing going on for them is that they portray 2 entirely different mentalities. It is entirely up to the viewer to decide what each character means.

Overall (10/10)

This movie was a perfect example of how Anime can be classified as art. It's not very often you encounter an anime whose entire message is determined by the experience as a viewer.

I highly suggest you go watch this
