Mixed Feelings
Story: HSotD is a pretty standard "survivors must escape the zombie hordes" series, only this time our intrepid heroes are a bunch of high schoolers seeking safety while also trying to discover the fates of their families. I always find it intriguing to watch how groups would react when society completely collapses, even more so when it's a bunch of young students trying to fully grasp what this means for them and their futures.

Art: When the action gets going, be prepared for sheer physics defying psychosis forms of entertainment. However, at times the creators go lazy and pull "shaky cam stills" in some of the strangest places, such as a girl jumping off a bus.

Sound: Sound is pretty much what you would expect from a zombie horror series. I give props to a really good intro song, though I must also warn it is the best song played throughout the series. You may stab your ears out at some of the Engrish sung in the ending scenes

Character: Characters are fairly standard tropes for the genre: the popular guy protagonist, his love interest, best friend, sullen female badass, the "geek that inherited the earth" badass. Some character development, but nothing that makes them stand out. (Seriously, I can't remember any of their names).

Enjoyment: Herein lies the rub. The sum of the parts, while nothing extraordinary, would have made for a fully enjoyable series on their own merits. However, the creators also decided flood the series with so much fanservice it nearly derails the entire thing. By flooding I mean it looks like they added MORE in post production. This isn't some prudish attitude of mine; there's at least one panty or chest shot every 30 seconds or so. It is so prevalent that when you get to the requisite "chicks in a bathtub" scene, you are so numbed you actually don't care.

Conclusion: 6/10 HSotD would have scored higher for me were it not for the excessive and honestly unnecessary amounts of fanservice thrust at you. I won't give a full out recommendation to watch it because of it, but if you are curious the action scenes will melt your brain with their insanity, and you'll find a decent story to boot.
