These are the three ways I could describe this series. Right from the beginning you are treated to sword-swinging demon-slaying eye candy that hits it right on the spot for action, violence, and plenty of gratuitous blood spewing. The story follows a stereotypical plot line: Strong, beautiful, and skilled warrior finds clingy love-seeking companion, they travel together, and slay demons. However this is misleading, because after a few episodes you discover what you thought was this total badass warrior is really just the runt of the litter, and you start diving into her back story that really sucks you in emotionally and you suddenly gain a new worldview of the series that's completely different than how you perceived it in the beginning. From there on out, it's a roller coaster of fighting, survival, and self-discovery, and I felt myself many times feeling genuinely sorry for these people and rooting them on.
It's a wonderful story, and you don't have to wait until the end of the series to become emotionally attached to the characters (which is a quality I enjoy).
Definitely recommended.
