Mixed Feelings
As this season started out I was worried it would be just more of the same kinds of episodes that I really didn't gel with like in the first season, and that was true but I believe it was around episode 5 that things really started to pick up and the quality to me made a noticeable improvement all around from how the episodes were written and set up their jokes to the various styles of animation used with more variety in technique almost looking like from a different show. This season both has a really funny episode on Dandy and this new character Johnny trying to become rock stars while constantly fighting and one that's a good, trippy reflection on the afterlife in a strangely Spanish-Catholic fashion. So even with such a short turn-around from season 1 to 2, there was an improvement that made me enjoy this show more. Also worth noting that this was the dub version which I found helped a lot with the comedy on the show than trying to follow along with the sub, but that's just me following from my frustration in season 1.

I would not have watched this as soon as a I did (8 months after the first season) if I wasn't going through Shingo Natsume's work. The only thing I could see that seemed to be influenced directly by him is the design of the assistant to Dr. Gel that has the simple, long face like something from The Tatami Galaxy. I saw an episode on adult swim years ago that prompted a small interest in watching this, and now I can confirm that I have not seen what I remember from then. That's alright and overall I am glad I did watch this, but I do not look on Space Dandy as fondly as most other people, which seems weird to me, but so be it.
