This anime was a hidden gem for me. I grew up in the 90s with Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon. This anime brought those same emotions back. The plot isn't overly deep but it keeps you invested. Dai the protagonist is strong but not absolutely broken like we see a lot lately. In fact, through 37 episodes I've watched so far it's safe to say that you never know if he is going to pull through. Every week I look forward to the next episode and it never feels like a chore to watch. Filler doesn't exist here. Every episode progresses the story in some way.
The art of course is the Toriyama Dragon Ball/Dragon Quest style. It's extremely nostalgic. Yes there is some CGI but it doesn't take away from the art. Also, If you have played the games you will recognize many of the monsters and spells. The animators have done the games justice.
When people ask what anime they should watch, this is always my first thought. There is never a bad episode. I highly recommend this to people who loved 90s anime.
