I went into this with wavering expectations; read some of the more negative reviews below, plus I've been slowly getting tired of harem anime (even though it's literally my most watched genre) and isekai in general.

Ok but other than the poor choice in what to CG (understandable because of frame-to-frame animation complexities) aka the monsters which basically looked absolutely unrecognisable and meh, Arifureta was really bloody addicting. I binged the entire season in just about 12 hours. Animation was a little wonky, I won't deny, since the character colors are drastically different from the background, but hey, that's not the focus point, although it does contribute into the enjoyment.

What hooked me on the most was actually, SURPRISINGLY, the plot. And the character development. Yes, it's the classic formula of Japan's average weeb + transportation = isekai average hero, and then you add some special circumstances here and there and boom we have an overkill hero, but the method and story of how our MC, Hajime, got there, was pretty intriguing. And I gotta give it to the author, getting to know how he progresses through the mysterious abyss/labyrinth that he got thrown in (even though he's pretty much overpowered) was pretty interesting.

I also especially loved our two initial waifus, Yue and Shea. Appearance wise they do fall under tropes, but I especially enjoy the relationship and bonding Yue shares with Hajime and how they've literally been through hell together (although timeline of event occurence might seem a little unrealistic), and we see how Shea turns out to be this hardworking and strong girl and she's just so fun and unexpected.

The character bonds in the show was also really enjoyable, and I really enjoyed how deep we get to dive into Hajime and Yue's bond as well as the pain they share, and how their bond makes them stronger.

And as expected from my favourite genre, I must give 10/10 to the punch lines and jokes because as a 21 year old I still get good fits of laughs from it and THAT's how you excute a good harem anime. You have jokes intertwined between the secretly deep subplot and character development (if done well) hiding behind the facade of harem.
