Mixed Feelings
High School of The Dead had the potential to be a truly great zombie series. However, as you should be able to tell by the opening credits, this show devolves into a brainy stew of zombies and fan service. While this combination may seem fine, the show fails to execute, in that, it takes it's self too seriously whilst delivering a mediocre story with little to no character development outside of the one brilliant character of the series, Saeko, the rest of the cast serve as cardboard cutouts compared to her.

What the series lacks of in story, it excels in the art department (Gravity defying boobs aside) animation is both slick, and vapid, while offering up a great color palette to contrast the brilliant blood streams.

Overall, I'm sure HoTD pleases a majority of it's viewers, and it is an enjoyable viewing experience if you can get over the awkward fanservice and don't expect a serious plot. The most disappointing aspect of the series is that it offers an otherwise fascinating insight into what people would do if a zombie outbreak were to happen, however these instances of fascination are few and far between and takes a backseat to the series' main goal, pandering to it's teen male demographic.

If you're looking for a mindless zombie slaying experience then HoTD is for you, otherwise don't get your hopes up.
