In the eyes of an avid Go Nagai fan and a more avid DEBIRUMANNNN fan, this felt disappointing. This is directed by Masaki Yuasa one of my favorite directors in anime and was very hyped up but just felt disappointed afterwards. the soundtrack is very good and somehow manages to modernize Devilman but manages to seem stupidly "edgy" even for Devilman. This just seems like the Amon the Apocalypse OVA but with a lot of sex. I can't imagine watching this without prior knowledge, I'd probably hate Crybaby cause of how weird and confusing it is. People recommend this if you haven't read the manga but I highly disagree. People usually say "oh it follows the manga better" even though it doesn't at all but has similar events. I don't know if this wants to be a Devilman anime or a Masaki Yuasa anime and its feels more like Yuasa. Nothing about this is similar to Devilman except the characters and plot. Very important moments are outright changed for seemingly no reason and replaced with mediocre at most replacements. Whole characters are changed or completely removed and Miki is split into two people called Miki and Miko!??? But Miko was that one girl who was experimented on by scientists and was a devilman...oh well weird choice. Also delinquents are changed into beatboxers? Easily Yuasa's weakest effort. I wouldn't dislike it as much if it were marketed as a Devilman alternate story then an adaptation.
