The show simply is about a college student who gets teleported to a different world (isekai) in order to protect it, but his only weapon is a shield.

I 1st heard about those show when it came out, as there were ‘news’ articles attacking it. The reason? It shows false rape accusations can happen and can have very real consequences. We can’t have that.

Anyway, usually titles that outrage SJW’s turn out well, and boy, did this turn turn out to be 1 hell of an anime. The journalists making a fuss about it turned my attention towards this show, & I have to say, it blew it out of the water.

Honestly, regardless of its infamy, the title & cover picture didn’t really seem interesting to me, more so when I learned the heroine is a half-raccoon, but this is one of those rare shows that make you want to see the next episode and what happens next.

You see, the story is about much more than just being falsely accused. The man was already not well-liked before he even got to the Melromarc kingdom; the reason being that the country always hated the Shield Hero, & even their state religion is called the ‘3 Heroes’ Church,’ referring to the other 3 heroes summoned with Naofumi (the Shield Hero), with the weapons being designated to them are: Sword, Spear & Bow. Each of the 4 heroes is summoned from a different version of Japan, so they don’t know each other.

Anyway, so the story is mostly about Iwatani Naofumi & how he deals with this game-like world; his inner conflict about protecting a world he hates and that hates him back, and doing what he can to get back home, which is fighting the Waves.

I highly recommend this show to others. Even if you feel like you have seen too many isekai shows already, the main character here is unique in him being 20 years old & being capable and not a real pushover. You won’t see him cry a lot like, say, Re: Zero’s Natsuki Subaru. Give it a shot. The show gets very thrilling from the middle of the 1st episode on.
