Isekai anime have plagued the anime industry with subpar stories, overpowered characters, and genuinely copied stories. I often decide not to watch isekai anime as a result. However, I can say that without a doubt, Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation is one of the anime that serves the isekai genre right.

Many people are dissapointed by how Mushoku Tensei is a very pervy anime. And to some extent, I do agree with this; there are many questionable things that take place in this anime. However, I think the horniness of the characters also brings about a certain point which many isekai anime fail to miss. The MC doesn't change from his past life. In Rudy's previous life, he was looked down by everyone. As a result, he stayed away from the outside, and began to hate himself and his personality. He is a degenerate through and out, and does not seem to care for how creepy his actions can be. It would be a much worse anime if Rudy had changed into Prince Charming because that isn't really the person who Rudy was before. This is what differentiates Mushoku Tensei from many of the other isekai out there.

In this anime, there is no good person. Everyone has some corrupted aspect of themselves (*cough* Paul *cough*) which really resembles what would happen even in this world. Rudy became strong as a magician because he learned from childhood with an adult mind. But even then, there were people just as strong as him, and he was much weaker than other characters. Rudy can't save everyone and he has to find out what to protect.

Another thing that is great about this anime, is that all the characters are likeable. Each character has their own personalities and flaws, and they don't follow simple tropes. No matter how small a part they play, the author does a great job by making them memorable. This attention to descriptiveness and detail is also particularly exemplary as the anime even created a set of different languages for each species (more specificially, they actually used different symbols, writing, and speaking which all was paternistic). This really fleshes the unique dynamic of worldbuilding in the anime. While Rudy is the main character, he isn't the complete main focus of the story being told, and different parts of the world are being visited and built on top of each other. Due to fabulous worldbuilding and great characters, the story becomes very good and hooks in the audience to continue watching.

The art could have been done much better. Characters are not always fully shaded out, and the colors seem rather bland. The fight scenes are awesome, but they aren't exemplary. I do enjoy how the spells are cast throughout the anime however. Despite its blandness, it was still watchable and on par with most anime.

The music was great. The ending music is fabulous, and it is definitely one of my most favorite ones of this season. The OSTs match the mood very well especially when they are in the Demon land. This really enhances the overall appeal of the animethroughout. And the fact that the visuals changes or the anime plays while the OP starts, shows that Mushoku Tensei isn't trying to rush everything. The first 9 episodes of the anime were really just the starting; the rising action only started in the 10th episode. The fact that the anime was so enjoyable even though the story has not progressed that far yet, proves to show that Mushoku Tensei has a lot of potential for the second cour, and I am excited for when it comes out!
